Plastics award for automotive A great honour for our automotive systems division in Horb: at the award ceremony of the renowned SPE Automotive Award, our deco panel for the BMW 5 series Gran Turismo reached third place in the category "Parts and Components 2010".
The award by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) in Düsseldorf is seen as one of the most prestigious plastics prizes in the automobile industry. Among the nominated products was also the deco panel for the BMW F07 (Gran Turismo) made using the DirektSkinning method which was developed in Horb and which has been mass produced there for a year. The 25 high-ranking members of the jury from the plastics industry awarded the panel third place in the category "Parts and Components 2010". CEO Klaus Fischer was very pleased about this award and congratulated the automotive team for their outstanding achievement. With this award the jury also honours the innovative DirectSkinning production method which we co-developed and where injection moulding and surface design are made in a single process step. Compared with conventional methods, this compact production process excels with its higher quality, shorter production time, more scope in design, long life and cost savings. The jury applauded the light-fast material, the economy in production, the visual appearance and the overall impression of the deco panel. Besides the Gran Turismo, Horb also supplies the entire BMW 5 series with deco panels which are all made using the DirectSkinning method. The SPE Automotive Award honours the most innovative and creative achievements in the automobile and automotive supply industry, awarded in two categories: Parts & Components and Media & Publications. |
